The Amazing Health Benefit Of Cinnamon

What is the health benefit of cinnamon?

There are several major health benefits of cinnamon, and this article discusses some of them. We use various spices in Sri Lanka. Let’s find out about cinnamon, an indispensable spice. Cinnamon grown in Sri Lanka belongs to the genus Cinnamomum zealanicum and is endemic to Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan cinnamon has been popular around the world as a natural flavor since time immemorial. It is characterized by a higher taste and aroma than Cinnamomum cassia, a species of cinnamon found in other parts of the world.

Cinnamon has also been used as a medicinal flavor since ancient times, and there is evidence that cinnamon was also used in ancient Egypt. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the health benefits of cinnamon.

There are three major health benefits that have been identified. That is

  • Blood sugar levels are regulated.
  • Relieves diseases of the digestive system.
  • Improves blood circulation.

Cinnamon regulates blood sugar levels.

More benefit of cinnamon consumption has been shown to lower not only blood sugar levels but also cholesterol and triglyceride levels. However, the mechanism by which this is so is still unclear. Some experts believe that the chemicals in cinnamon increase the sensitivity of the receptors to the hormone insulin, which is important for controlling our blood sugar levels. Therefore, research published in the journal Eating Well has shown that blood glucose is removed from the blood and stored in tissues. But, to get this health benefit, about half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder a day should be added to an adult’s diet.

Relieves diseases of the digestive system.

Cinnamon can be used to relieve numerous stomach ailments including nausea, bloating, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. Some of the oils present in cinnamon help to disperse food particles, stimulate the secretion of saliva and gastric juices and regulate digestion and absorption of nutrients. Therefore, some dieticians and nutritionists are of the opinion that a small amount of cinnamon powder can be sprayed on the food as needed to prevent stomach upset when eating acidic foods. An article on botanical-online.com points out that you can drink a glass of water with half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder about half an hour before a meal to relieve stomach aches.

Improves blood circulation.

Cinnamaldehyde, an active ingredient in cinnamon, improves peripheral blood circulation. Therefore, if the blood circulation in the limbs is poor, you may be able to get some help from cinnamon to improve it. Cinnamon can also be used to soothe sore fingers due to exposure to cold. Since cinnamon has been shown to lower blood cholesterol levels, the use of cinnamon may also be helpful in relieving blood vessel blockages. Some experts recommend drinking two glasses of water with half a teaspoon of cinnamon a day to improve the health of the blood vessels.

Although there are benefits of cinnamon, cinnamon alone should not be used as a remedy for all the ailments mentioned above. Cinnamon can never be used as a substitute for treating such ailments.
